As Dell Med continues to grow, so does the breadth and depth of its research.
The Pursuing Excellence Research Symposium — Dell Med and Seton Healthcare Family’s third annual resident research day,on June 1 — included more than 110 research presentations on display by residents and fellows. Topics spanned neurology, pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine (PEM), psychiatry, craniofacial surgery and more.
Jonathan MacClements, Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education, said the symposium has continued to grow due to interest from groups around Dell Med and UT Austin. The School of Nursing and the Department of Pharmacy both participated in the symposium, and even a few of Dell Med’s first-year medical students presented posters.
“We had to use the largest space we could find to host this year’s symposium,” MacClements said. “There’s a real air of camaraderie here — it’s just an incredibly exciting event to see and be a part of.”
Residents and fellows offered attendees oral explanations of their research, resulting in a hum of discussion around the wide variety of projects.
“This symposium is great because it gives all of us residents an opportunity to look around at what residents in other departments and specialties are doing,” said PEM resident Sheryl Yanger. “We’re so focused on our own fields all year long, and this event gives us a chance to learn about other research happening around us.”
Judges awarded prizes to presentations in three categories. Congratulations to this year’s winners!
