How would you transform wellbeing at UT Austin? In 2016, the Model Healthy Campus Initiative asked students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas at Austin to answer by submitting video proposals. Among them:
The Destressor Station
Nancy Phan and Anh Ly submitted a plan for a campus “destressor station” — a touchscreen kiosk to post users’ anonymous “sticky notes.” The message-posting function would encourage free expression, while a feature to allow users to email replies to a note offers the promise of connecting individuals with others on campus experiencing the same problems.
The Food Pantry
Team Hungryhorns No More proposed a campus pantry to alleviate short-term food insecurity for students on campus. Their video ends with a powerful spoken-word poem by Amie Jean.
The Self-Compassion Sticker
Devin Bowman and Karalyne Martinez weighed in with an idea for promoting the concept of self-compassion on campus — something that could be as easy as posting stickers in residence halls.
A select few of those submitting video proposals to the Model Healthy Campus Initiative will receive $1,000 to prototype their idea. Stay tuned for updates as the prototyping process gets underway!
